ReCyCle Rochdale is a creative engagement project commissioned by Rochdale Pioneers Museum and delivered by visual artist Richard Dawson and is project managed by Freelance Heritage Engagement Practitioner Angela Whitecross.
ReCyCle Rochdale is a community led project working with young people from the local community to create a cycle themed kinetic artwork to grace the exterior of the Rochdale Pioneers Museum throughout Summer 2014. The project will coincide with 2014 Tour De France taking place in Yorkshire in July and will explore and take inspiration from The Co-operation on wheels exhibition at Rochdale Pioneers Museum.
The artwork will be designed and created by young people from Rochdale during a series of creative workshops, drop-in sessions and engagement days at local venues and youth clubs including Sparth Community Centre and The Rochdale Pioneers Museum.
The artwork will be created from reclaimed and recycled materials especially scrap bicycles and workshop sessions will involve participants in the creative elements of junk sculpture and art bikes alongside gaining hands on and practical skills, working as a team and cooperating to create unique works of art.
